It's all in the detail. Most UK homes can have an air source heat pump installed, including much older properties, as long as the system is designed correctly.
- An outdoor space for the heat pump, ideally at ground level
- An indoor space for the hot water cylinder and controls
- Works with your existing radiators or underfloor heating
- Keeps heating your home in temperatures down to -20°C
How an air source heat pump works
Typically producing 3–4 units of heat for every 1 unit of electricity used.
Takes heat from the air
Draws warmth from the outside air, even in cold weather.
Boosts the temperature
A compressor and refrigerant raise it to a useful temperature.
Moves heat indoors
Transfers it to your radiators, underfloor heating and hot water.
Steady, even warmth
Low-temperature heating that keeps your home comfortable all day.
Why switch to a heat pump?
Lower running costs
Uses far less energy than a traditional boiler to heat your home.
Highly efficient
Produces 3–4 times more heat than the electricity it uses.
Lower carbon emissions
A cleaner, greener way to heat your home and hot water.
Comfortable all year
Even, consistent heat across every room, all day long.
Future-proof
Ready for net-zero targets and future energy regulations.
Low maintenance
Fewer moving parts than a gas system, with simple annual servicing.
“House is warmer than we used to have it, and more consistent across rooms and throughout the day. I reckon it’s maybe a third cheaper than the old combi.”
